Database Application


Medical Consultation Tracking. This application tracks medical consults involved in legal action. The client provides medical expert testimony for legal and insurance firms. Each Case involves extensive notes and can have multiple experts providing services through review, deposition, arbitration, and trial. Correspondence is automatically generated from the case records using 4D Write. The latest additions are: invoicing and accounts receivable reporting, and a complete update to 4D v12. The application tracks over 25,000 cases and 700 consultants. Over a 23 year period, the application has been converted through 3 different database engines and continues to evolve with the needs of the client. Tools used - 4D Server v12, 4D Write, Foundation Shell code library.



Database Application that supports multiple Web Applications


Directed work with existing application Vendor to manage end of life development. Goals were to minimize changes in the existing complex database application while meeting organization production objectives. Developed SQL reporting and export tools that allowed full access to the database structure of the 4D database without disturbing the application Vendor’s code base. Developed 4D components to provide custom functions for the SQL reporting tool. Developed 4D component to clone the existing database to MySQL. 4D v11 SQL, MyConnect plugin.



Web Application


Online ordering of exhibit properties for a major computer manufacturer’s field sales force. This application allowed the field sales force to view and order exhibit properties as packages and individual items enforcing user level access rules. Order processing and shipping notices are emailed to the requestor along with tracking numbers and links to the shipping agent web site tracking system. Continuous operation since May 2005. Tools used - FreeBSD, Apache, MySQL, Perl, Javascript.


System Administration


Museum and Trade Show Exhibit Fabricator. Provide complete system administration for 100 user network of mixed Windows and Macintosh clients. Configure and maintain Windows Active Directory server. Implemented WSUS server for local windows computer updates. Configure and maintain Network Attached Storage servers. Configure and maintain Internet Proxy server, Vicomsoft Policy Manager, with web usage reporting. Install and configure printers including large format HP Plotters. Designed and implemented network switch configuration. Designed and implemented comprehensive backup strategy using EMC Retrospect for servers and client computers. Installed and configured Sophos Enterprise virus and firewall protection. Install and configure client computers. Repair and upgrade computers as necessary.



Web Application


An existing client in the private education sector needed a way for their instructors and center administrators to enter evaluations and print progress reports for the students they served. We built upon their existing 4D Server based application for registration and attendance reporting to collect and report data used in the classroom environment. Complex Student progress reports are generated in real time by the application server and delivered to the browser via pdf file. Enforced consistent data entry rules. The system went on line in January 2005 and was retired in 2010 following the sale of the company to a larger organization. Tools used - 4D Web Server, 4D Server, Active4D, Javascript.



Database Application


Student registration and attendance reporting database. This application tracks registration, attendance, individual learning plans, graduation requirements, and curriculum for students enrolled. Originally started as an attendance tracking mechanism, the application has grown with the needs of the client and was operational from 1990 to 2010 when it was retired following the sale of the company to a larger organization. Tools used - 4D Server 2003, Windows Server 2003.



Database Application


Consulting Management Application. Quest Information Systems led a team of developers over a period of 5 years in the development and refinement of the project. The application tracked Statistical and IT Consultants. Consultant skills were matched with assignment requirements. Employment costs for each assignment were calculated on an hourly basis including facilities and fixed asset chargebacks. All Consultant billing hours were collected and processed by Human Resources and Accounting. Peak usage was over 500 active Consultant assignments spread throughout the continental United States. This Client/Server application served 50 concurrent users in three office around the United States and operated for over 10 years before being replaced after the client company was sold. Tools used - 4D Server, AreaList, PrintList.
